OVERVIEW
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccines have successfully prevented innumerable cases of HBV infection and its sequelae. Issues related to the use of the vaccine require practitioners to consider their individual patient’s needs. This monograph will review 3 circumstances surrounding the HBV vaccine in the context of case presentations. The importance of immunizing a patient with chronic liver disease against hepatitis A virus and HBV will be reviewed. Situations of various types of travelers will be evaluated in regards to whether they should be immunized against HBV. Lastly, the appropriate management of an individual who does not respond to HBV vaccination will be discussed.
