OVERVIEW
Influenza continues to be responsible for significant morbidity and mortality in the United States despite the availability of safe and effective vaccines. It is vital that physicians are aware of the continuously evolving recommendations for influenza vaccination put forth by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). Equally important is the knowledge required to choose the most appropriate vaccine for each individual. This monograph will review the ACIP recommendations on influenza vaccination as well as issues surrounding the 2 available influenza vaccines. Material will be presented in the context of three case presentations.
